Are those black bluchers?
Fosters has some pretty sweet finishes on black shoes - more of a faded look than the darkening that you'd usually associate with antiquing. Some of those are aged from sitting in the light, and some are finished by hand with some technique they use.
Acetone.
Save for Lattanzi burying his leather for a few years, I never understood why one would want to harshly chemicalize leather in the name of antiquing/aging/whatever. Trying too hard, IMHO. Just wear the shoes and take care of them. You can't hurry love. Even then, Lattanzi's outcome ain't all that pretty. - M
I think the WS Foster finish is pretty cool, especially when it's applied with a light hand. Here's a pic from Will's blog.
Pretty cool.
I don't like antiquing in general, but I really don't get the appeal of antiquing a shoe that's "black." It wouldn't be black anymore. If I want or need a black shoe, it's got to actually be black.
