Well for me, if I have to convince myself to buy something (making compromises) I don't buy it in the first place, as I probably won't end up being happy with it. But if the loafers seem very relevant to your style in a way that it won't matter that they don't look sleek or modern (say if you're going for a more classical look), then buy them for sure as they're a great deal. I am admittedly going on the assumption that you are looking for a somewhat modern look, a la the aesthetic of J.crew, engineered garments, BoO etc. whereby these loafers wouldn't fit the bill, but if this isn't the case, then they would work. If it is the case, then I would save up, as to me it's not worth making the compromise.

Would be wearing with denim and chinos, oxfords and a tie. The brown suede worries me as I would inevitably get indigo on the tops, and then they would not look nearly as sharp. I have a few pairs of clarks DB's, but these blow those completely out of the water.

Think I prefer the captoes, but the chukkas are an interesting shoe--I like the contrast between the dark leather and the light sole. Plus, I'm in agreement with others that the red sole is a little too current.

The distressing/antiquing on the first is lame--would buy regular brown ones instead of them. The blue ones look pretty good. $85 seems like a lot, but seems in the range sperrys sell for.

$85 is a lot for a boat shoe?
It seemed like a decent price as a lot of SF threads/people speak of dropping $200+ on a single pair of shoes (albeit they're dress shoes and the like).

What's so special about that model? The standard sperry top sider is usually a little cheaper than that.

And $85 isn't nothing. People spend double or more on quoddys but they're much more limited in release, often come in unusual color combinations, are arguably made of better materials, and are domestically produced. And even then, I'm not arguing they present good value.

The shoe construction methods in dress shoes--goodyear welt, well-shaped lasts, etc., make it easier to find value in the prices they fetch.

To be fair, i see the benefit in the jcrew or whatever distressed models. Not everyone cares about "the process" of wearing them in and making them your own or whatever. They look worn in and definitely different than the brand new right out of the sperry store ones. Most often better. Depends if the $20 is worth the 6months of regular wear or whatever to get them looking worn in

I think Timberland makes a boat shoe that looks nice and worn in with soft leather that's like $60-70 if someone wanted an alternative to sperry. My friend took me shopping a few times last year and basically got hooked up with SF beginner fodder like those timberland boat shoes (which look nice) some desert boots in black and beeswax, some slim dark jeans and **** like that. Doesn't care about clothes just wants to look decent

Don't get them. they don't look much better than normal sperrys.

why do you want them in brown though? IMO you should get some navy or even red ones. straight brown or tan boat shoes seem old man to me. they're kinda inherently ugly with the stitching and stuff, so they may as well be a fun colour.

i've heard bad things about bed stu but they're the only boots in that style for cheap, so may be worth it until you can find some better ones. Nice styling, but probably doesn't look that nice in person.
