A striped blazer should have very thick wide stripes to distinguish it from a suit jacket.

Those are two great linen SCs from Cucinelli that pocketsquareguy is wearing. I have the blue one and I think it works great.

Having seen PSG wear those sport coats IRL, there's no way they'd be mistaken for orphaned suit jackets.

Anyone who's savvy enough about menswear to know that pinstriped jackets typically belong to suits is going to recognize immediately that pocketsquareguy's jackets are sport coats. And very high-quality sport coats at that. They do not resemble orphaned suit jackets even remotely.

+1. PSG's jacket looks terrific and to my eye is obviously a sc, and a very nice one at that.

^^ Agree with all 3 comments above that PSG's jackets dont look like orphaned suit jackets but I still don't like the look of them. Would have preferred checks or solids.

Agree totally that PSG's jackets are true SC's and do not look like orphaned suit jackets at all. There seems to be a lot of left and right with very few guys willing to meet in the middle. As the OP I dont want to add more wood to the fire...BUT

-What would the concensus be on striped pants with solid jackets???? :-/

I think I'll start a new thread on that.

Just bought a pinstriped velvet blazer. It's chocolate with tan stripes.

Might not wear it on a business setting, but definitely on a date. It's money.

I think the look works as long as the pinstriping is light and understated.

Quite. This is one of those 'rules' that some folk have heard early on and continue parroting.
For the record, I own a couple, they aren't orphaned, don't look orphaned and anyone who disagrees is perfectly at liberty to, with all due respect, kiss mi batty.

Note how the ones who have a hardon for calling out obvious SCs as orphaned coats are either newbs likely out to prove their SF cred, or angry posters in the vein of dkzzzz.

Like most other things in life, there are those who obsess over the process/rules, and those who prefer to let the results speak for themselves.
