I absolutely love flying down a twisty road at night. There is a sense of freedom that few other things I have done compare to.

So does anyone else like doing 80 on a dark backroad.

I really miss driving fast down empty streets...not really possible in NYC.

Sometimes I forget that. It's been less than 12 hours.

When you say empty streets, do you mean empty straights or empty twists. There is a huge difference in thrill level.

Either or. None can be had in the city.

There was a road near where I lived in Florida that was perfect for this. No population, nice twists and turns - hard enough that you had to take them right, but not so sharp that you had to hammer the brakes. We used to absolutely fly down that road. In retrospect it was pretty stupid, but we were kids.

I like driving in general. We have some great backroads here in Georgia. There's nothing better for clearing my head than just picking a direction and driving into the middle of nowhere. I'm not even looking to go fast anymore. I have an old Jeep that's my weekend car, and on a nice day it's great to put the top down and roll.

That is one of the downsides to city living, but give me a city over the country any day of the week.

Now country girls might be another story...

I live right beside a huge area of public land, almost a million acres. In the summers, it's deserted because, well, it's outdoors in Florida in the summer and there aren't any major hunting seasons then.
It's crossed by a network of dirt roads. There is nothing better than flying down these in my jeep, sliding around the curves, a huge dust cloud behind me. Just awesome.

Cruising the Merritt Parkway is always a good time...when not congested.
