mad men season 3

I really don't understand the hype over this show. I watched both seasons recently and I was bored to tears. Yeah, the clothes are great and I want to maul Christina Hendricks like a lion on 40 midgets, but it's so slow and meandering and I find it hard to get invested in any of the characters.
Now Breaking Bad, on the other hand, is the best show on TV since The Wire went the way of the Dodo.

Not to derail this thread, because Mad Men is a cool show (particularly if you can marathon some episodes to get the full effect) but the second season of Breaking Bad was intense. I was riveted like I haven't been since The Shield.
I don't find myself drooling over Christina Hendricks, but whatever. Not my type. Her character undeniably adds to the show.

I am thrilled for the next season, I wonder what is going to happen with the merger and Duck Phillips and Don not having a contract, etc.

I like the show, but it can be maddeningly slow. The episode that sticks in my mind is the one where they have a birthday party for Sally, and Don builds her playhouse, pouding about 10 beers in the process. The camera makes it a point to follow him to the fridge every time, so it sets up the expectation that he is getting loaded and some horrible scene will follow. Then ... nothing happens. He goes to get the cake and just stays out all day.

the point was he was thisclose to visiting Ms. Menkel and having another affair during his daughter's birthday party. And he was likely drunk when driving there. But, as you know, he does not, he simply dozes off in his car under some random bridge.
Part of what I like about the show are the little things. In any current drama, he would have gotten drunk, swindled some cash, bought some weed, raided a casino, and picked up 2 hookers just to show what a badass he is. This show doesn't do that way (at least for the most part). I tend to like it that way.

Yeah my jaw literally dropped when I saw Don littering in the park that first season. While I'm not too crazy about the clothes I enjoy watching the show from the perspective of a period piece and comparing the social contrasts between then and now.
Christina Hendricks is a doll and I prefer January Jones' 60s look better than her contemporary one.
