They might be better served if they took the Nissan/Toyota/Honda route by creating a new company name for their luxury cars, because I bet lots of people end up passing on it due to the Hyundai badge.
I drove the Genesis too and almost bought it.......... it was that surprisingly good!

The top price point of Toyota SUVs (about 60k for a platinum level Sequoia) is about what it costs for the GX Lexus. It's only about 15k less than an LX. It's the service that gets people into a Lexus, IMO, not the name cache. It was creating different dealership networks that tipped Lexus and Infiniti, not the badging per se.

+1 on the bit about the dealership experience being primary even though we can't ignore the badge whores either.

I've dealt with plenty of half-assed Infinti service and oily Lexus salesmen.
Just saying

I've gotten superb service from two different Lexus dealers in Atlanta. I decided to buy my second Lexus in part due to this.

The car looks total ghetto with Buick inspired chrome trim and "Jewel headlights" + prerequisite chrome rims.
All that fake wood inside makes me lol.

I look at the car not the badge that's why I bought a Phaeton. If you avoid the dealer altogether by having him come to you what diffference does it make.

No way that wood is fake. Hyundai can't afford to **** up like that on this car.

Chrome rims make we want to hurl on the other hand

Probably is real wood. The Genesis also has a leather interior including wrapped dash that makes many luxury cars look cheap so I doubt on a car higher in their product line they would skimp.

Everything's real: leather dash; wood trim, non-plastic chrome.
We're talking $80K vehicle here. They can't afford to fick around

This is some of the most elitist bullshit I've ever read. Congrats.

It is probably real. It just looks fake. My Lexus LS had matte wood panels without that cheap polyurethane HIGH GLOSS finish that makes it look fake and cheap. If this Hyundai is priced at 80K they are day-dreaming. This car will NOT sell outside of Korea. If they bring it state side in this economy they should pray to god they sell it for around 49K What consumer would choose Hyundai over Merc, Lex, BMW, Infinity, Acura??? or even Jaguar for that matter?

Actually, LOADED a new Genesis sedan with the bigger 4.7L engine is a about $41k MSRP. Base is 37k. They know they have to out price established luxury brands by a huge margin, but at the same time, it's a Catch-22, because will your typical luxury buyer want to buy what appears to be a great car for such a low price?

Thanks! Except...it's not bullshit. Come back and talk to me when you drop 80k on a car and then enjoy the service you get at a place that specializes in cars 20k and under. Oh wait...you don't have 80k to drop on a car.

What kind of car can you get for 80k in the USA? In the Netherlands it buys you a pretty decent, but definitley not fully loaded Merc E350 or BMW 530 (the 530i High Executive is 79k euro ( +/- 110k US$).
