I prefer Rome personally. Never had any problems there.

Rome is full of thieving gypsies and it's intolerably hot in summer with no trees.

Parisians, second only to Quebecois. I've met numerous French types here, as well as Canadians, and the only two groups from both locations I was entirely unable to stand were the Parisians and Quebecois.

The best I've met tend to be from the Mediterranean, usually Nice or Marseille. I really should travel there one of these days, see if I can confirm that or if I'd just met the exceptional examples of those regions.

I like Parisians too, and love Paris. All of our friends from the provinces, however, keep telling me that all tourists are terrible, but none are as terrible as the Parisians.

I think some people hear the French speak and automatically assume that people are talking down to them. The accent has connotations of being condescending and pompous even when the people really are not. Parisians can be more difficult than the typical French, but in the same way that New Yorkers or Londoners can be.

Is your

because you want someone to challenge the idea that Paris is a country?

Well, I don't think too highly of New Yorkers, but Parisians and Londoners are fine by me. I like making fun of them, because they are so damn defensive about their city and fellow Parisians. If Paris were a country, I would say they were overly patriotic, but I don't know what the word is when it deals with only a city, cidiotic maybe.

There are some great monuments, but all in all, when I was there (35 years ago, granted) I thought it was somewhat dingy except for the monuments, etc.

Yes and I love Paris! There's so much to do and to explore in Paris that it's always different each time I visit. Just being in the bateaux mouches at the Seine no matter what time of year justifies why it's one one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The Parisians doesn't bother me and most of them I find very helpful and polite.

Thankfully nobody cares about meeting someone from Oakland so you're golden and can hurl insults hiding behind a thick wall of mediocrity.

Paris is beautiful. Certainly a contender for most beautiful city.

I don't know if sticking extra things on the menu was done to me. But I always left a little more than the VAT. The waiters seemed happy. I wonder if they appreciated the little extra or thought I was a stupid American?

I wonder if anyone that knows Paris well like, Ettiene, RJman, GDL-Greg would comment?

We are petitioning to erect said wall between my fair city and the cesspool known as Oakland. Unfortunately, the state is bankrupt.
