He said the same thing to me when I was in there, though my suit was single breasted. He told me as well that it was not soft shouldered, but quite padded, and that if I wanted to understand soft shoulders as a true aficionado would, I should try one of his bespoke suits.

Some beautiful things in there, though.

I tried on some of the bespoke jackets in progress. While they obviously didn't fit me, I could tell that they cut a very straight shoulder line. As for softness, I couldn't tell--nothing I saw was beyond the skeletal stage.

I grinned and beared it. I don't pretend to know all the Rules, but it annoys me when someone assumes that I've broken them out of ignorance.

So, you acted consonant with your height while Fan resisted the inclinition of stature.

Well done.

Well, like I said, he was not mean-spirited. He wasn't trying to insult me or deride the quality of my clothes. But other salesmen have more tactfully suggested improvements to me without stating that I've made an inappropriate choice. What really rubbed me the wrong way was the implication that my choice, whether appropriate or not, was out of ignorance.

He certainly knows a lot and is very well-versed. But I thought it odd for him to insist that he knows what a Neapolitan jacket looks like and dismiss the opportunity to widen his view upon seeing a real-life example.

Funny thing is, booger landed near his lips and he keep babbling on about hand stitching. It was bizarre. I starred in amazement.
