Job Fair Approaching

Ok, so there is a job fair on my campus in a few weeks. The Census Bureau will be there, and I'm really interested in a Analyst/Statistician position.

Should I wear a suit, or would a blazer and slacks work?

Originally, I thought a blazer would be fine, the fair being on campus and all. Recently, I've had second thoughts.

It might also look like you're trying a little too hard. If you can put together an ensemble of shoes, slacks, shirt, and blazer with varying colors, patters, and textures that fits you well you'll come across as well-coordinated and intelligent, with some personality. Looking smart without being too formal. It's maybe one-up on what they'll be wearing (slacks and shirt) but not too much like their bosses (suits), so they can still relate to you.
That's just me though.

depending on the job he wants. dont try too hard with the square and stuff. gotta dress as if you are inexperienced and eager to learn.

I say dress like a conservative grownup in a suit, shirt and tie, if you have them...it will probably make you catch the eyes of a few babes as you strut through campus anyway. If you don't already have them , no recruiter will hold it agaist you for a coordinating outfit if you dress like you care about making a good impression.

Thanks for the suggestions. Especially considering it's a government position, I'll probably play it conservative and wear a suit. I guess I should also mention I'm in grad school, about to get my master's, so I imagine more is expected of me.

SUIT UP!

My previous bosses said that they much prefer a person in a suit, for the reasons that have already been stated, i.e. you look like you are serious about the job.

exactly what i was thinking. i also think that for an interview black shoes are better than brown.

charcoal better than navy. navy is the power color while charcoal is understatement/stablity.

Great, so I'll definitely wear my charcoal suit. How about ties? I have a couple slim repp ties. Would these work, or is slim too trendy and not conservative enough?

if they are less than 3" its probably too skinny. try to have ties with navy backdrop.

I've heard this before, but I don't get it. I think navy is a warmer color. I think studies have shown people trust those wearing navy more than gray...not that the minor difference really matters that much in an interview compared to other things.

Suit up. My old man worked for the census bureau as an analyst right out of college. He enjoyed it very much he said at the time (25+ years ago) it was a really great place to work for
