Authentic Tacos - healthy or no?

I'm trying to cut my intake of fast food. Would you consider tacos fast food? Or a level better?

The tacos in my neighborhood is what I know to be the authentic kind - small corn tortillas, sometimes hand-made, with your choice of meat, then onions, cilantro, salsa, etc. There are 2 tortillas per taco, and a normal person eats 3 of these for a meal. I'm guessing the healthiest meat would be the braised/boiled chicken, maybe lengua.

I do NOT mean Taco Bell, I have no problem avoiding Taco Bell.

the chicken taco would be an exceptionally balanced and healthy choice, imo...try to avoid the tutti frutti jarrito and you should be good to go

I would say they are acceptable if trying to maintain or gain weight but probably not okay for dieters.

the joy they bring has health benefits that outweigh any other issues.

on a more serious note, I'm sure they're high in colesterol, but I don't find them to be particularly heavy.

If you take a lot of care fo yourself the tacos are not a healthy option.

I really don't watch what I eat, but my friends try to avoid it and eat something more healthy. I eat tacos like in 2 o my 3 meals, but I live in Mexico.

I think the best option is to eat the chicken taco and only with 1 tortilla per taco.

I had a big-ass burrito from Moe's tonight. Steak, rice, pinto beans, cheese, lettuce, salsa, cilantro. I don't know if the **** is healthy but it is tasty as ****.

i'm not sure if the tacos in LA are healthy, but they taste damn good. i'd say king taco near downtown LA is healthy - sorta.

I doubt many fast food places are healthy (though that would be a great concept) but I'm sure you could throw together a healthy version yourself with whole wheat tortillas and lean chicken blah blah blah you get the idea,

A similar question would be: authentic burger (fresh off the grillz in a backyard) - healthy or no? And the answer is still, most definitely not.

For some of the potential pitfalls, check out this Chipotle nutrition calculator. Doesn't take much to run up half your daily fat and an entire day's sodium. It doesn't speak to the overall healthiness of tacos, but goes to show that you need to know what's going in that shell.
