Is it ok to pair say a blue linensportcoat with tropical weight wool pants, or is linen only to be paired with linen?

Depends on the finish of the wool. I would not wear something with a slick finish or with an open weave. It is not so much about mixing fabric types but textures.
Some folks think there's such a thing as combining too much linen
I've noticed but I ain't one of them.
+1. Nothing better than a linen jacket, linen pants and a linen shirt in summer.
and a linen tie.
And a linen pocket square.
And linen boxers.
Didn't brooks bros. offer a pair of spectators made of cream linen and brown leather?
