Linen sportcoat with wool pants?

Is it ok to pair say a blue linensportcoat with tropical weight wool pants, or is linen only to be paired with linen?

It is perfectly accpetable to wear either sort of pants. What shade is the linen jacket?

Depends on the finish of the wool. I would not wear something with a slick finish or with an open weave. It is not so much about mixing fabric types but textures.

I agree on the slick finish point, but not the open weave point. I would not wear gabardine or a tight plain weave with linen. But fresco, certainly.

I match linen and seersucker jackets with tropical wool trousers and vice versa.

Light fresco pants are just fine with linen jackets.
