Yeah, I know nobody pays any attention to them anymore, but I do believe they're paying off their sins for the shockingly mediocre "Around The Sun".

Pure power pop. If I had to compare it to anything else in their oeuvre, it would probably be "Pop Song '89".

"Houston" part deux. Just heartrending.

Not bad if not uninspired. I'll still give REM, Husker Du, Camper Van Beethoven, and The Replacements credit for making the mid-late 80s bearable.

Yes, O/T except for the power pop bit. Pretty yummy girls, though. I love female musicians

I like that song that goes, "That sugar cane. That tasted good. That cinnamon. That's Hollywood. Come on. Come on."

Well I'm sure I'll buy it when it comes out as I've done with all their stuff, even though I have kind of given up on them.

The sad thing about REM these days (i.e. the last ten years) is each time a new album comes out and you think "this is bad" whenever the next one after that comes out the previous one doesn't seem so awful any more. I remember when Up and The Great Beyond came out I didn't think they were all that great but compared to the last few releases they now seem like a golden age...

Thanks for posting. I think the last CD was their best effort in a number of years. A couple of really good songs, including Hallow Man.

Not too many bands that we can name that have been able to crank out top album after album. Some people will argue Stones or Springsteen or Petty. But just as many people will argue that their lates stuff pales in comparision to the hits they had in the early years.

Check out on you tube another new REM song

"It happened today", with Eddie Vedder doing harmony....

It's kind of a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo. Reminds me of when South Park had George Clooney as a guest voice, and his only line was "quack".

I think Up is very underrated - one of my favourite R.E.M. albums. The last couple have been poor, tending to awful.

Automatic for the People will forever be my favorite REM album, as far as song for song goes.

Once Bill left the band they just didn't seem the same, which is weird because he was the drummer. You'd think they wouldn't have changed that much. That said, I haven't seriously listened to them since New Adventures in Hi-Fi. Everything previous to that album was brilliant (yes, even Monster).

Maybe it's a coincidence, but ever since Bill Berry left it seems like the band has gone downhill. IMO, the most underrated REM album is "New Adventures in Hi-Fi". Start to end I think that album is incredible.
