I originally took the challenge as a possible way to improve the forum. While my plaid win was ill-conceived, I used it to try and to move the contest in the right direction.

I picked "security guard", thinking people should learn the basics before moving on to more adventurous pattern mixing contest.

In selecting a winner, I thought people would pick the person that best interpreted the gray slack, blue blazer look. Picking someone you would want to dress like. Not actually who looked Most like a security guard.

There have been a bunch of disasters after that, mixed with a few good things.

I think in the future, winners could maybe pick contest that would help noobs dress better, not worse.

In that case, I feel obliged to confess that I did not wear my DTO challenge outfit out of the house.
There. I feel better now.

Toward that end, it might be good to start a thread in which we contribute ideas for future challenges. Winners wouldn't have to pick from the list, of course, but it could still serve as a guide and might help to keep us moving in a positive direction.

LOL are you serious?! I was disappointed that I missed that until I read this, since I am a big proponent of the security guard concept.

For what it's worth, I wore my winning look all day. It was a navy Zegna suit and a Polo repp stripe, so not too daring, I guess. :p

I think that I can't compete. I am pretty certain I can't rock 100% one color, head to toe.

Unless one goes black/white/grey (in practice, a re-run of the black challenge of a few weeks ago) or all-blue, this is actually really difficult to do because you can't use checked or striped shirts of your chosen colour (because of the white background).

olddog sometimes goes (nearly)-monochromatic in his looks in some unusual colours but it works because his shirts have often have a white background and the ties and square have another accent colour. One single colour with no white is nearly impossible to do well without going either all B&W/grey or all blue. I suppose all white might just be possible (white jumper, white flannels) but it's pretty weird look. Not that this generally stops us on SF, but still.

Interesting challenge!

White is an acceptable part of any monochromatic combination.

A monochromatic color scheme indicates tints and shades of one hue, including black and white at the extreme ends of the spectrum.

Ways to improve the forum:
1)Posting good fits.

2)Telling people how to dress better, so they can post good fits.

Ways to waste your time, and not improve the forum:
1)Complaining that the forum has "gone downhill"

2)Posting snarky one liners that don't help anyone (unless they are really funny)

Bolded is agreed.

Snarkiness will never leave.
