Should a restaurant be able to turn away clients based on age?

i support well behaved children in most venues. The problem is when they don't behave and your late night out with a +1 is ruined by a screaming brat named Brance and his indifferent parents.

sheesh.

I agree. Just being within earshot of a handicapped black guy who sounds like Chris Rock with Down Syndrome would just turn me off my dinner completely.

FWIW, my older daughter (2 going on 3) typically orders off the adult menu, and has excellent tastes in cheese.

Someone needs to explain the dolphin thing going around to me. I saw the B&S thread, and some mentions of it here and there, but I'm not in on the joke.

I went to Olive Garden once (hey, someone else paid for everything) and just as we were seated, the <1 year old baby at the next table started bawling. Bawling. Bawling. Finally our food gets there and the mom found out what was wrong. Dirty diaper. She started to change the baby right there on the ******* table.

Another time at a fancier restaurant, a kid threw some penne at his sister and missed. Direct hit on my cheek, though.

From now on, I ask to be seated at a table far away from any babies or kids.

This.

Could be. However, a late night in a +1 type environment carries with it certain social guidelines. I would submit that the people with the screaming brat are breaking the social guidelines of the venue, not the +1 situation. People not pleased with said screaming brat, may or may not get their evening ruined too easily, but that is rather not the point. The point is the couple sought out this time and location with a certain set of social expectations for the visit and their expectations are completely reasonable.

and just to note, I'd also be very irritated by adults acting in a poor manner.

You can try to ignore it all you want, but all you can think about when a screaming child is present is "jesus, STFU kid", even if you're donning a smile and pretending to have a good time. This, to me, is not fun.
