matt, did I mention that I will be in San Francisco in April?
^ Breathless.
The color on the 1990 is stunning. Do you know why its so dark?
Thanks. We tasted about twenty five different Armagnacs with Marc Darroze that day. Very nice guy, very serious about his craft. This is a nice mix. The Jouanchicot is very floral and fruity, much more of a Cognac profile than the others, and quite feminine. It was my wife's choice, and is all ugni blanc. The others are all baco, which makes a very rich, powerful, masculine spirit. The '71 is, according to the owner, about as perfect an Armagnac as he has tasted, and the '90s are very good, very powerful and no doubt the same vintage, when bottled in fifteen years or so from the same cask will be similar to the '71. Each has a very different profile.
Armagnac gets a bit more gold when it ages in the casks longer. The 1990 is the youngest.
Bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 23. I can't wait to get it home!!!!!
