I don't know how this got pushed back to the third page, but allow me to bump it back up. Over the last couple weeks I picked up a bottle of Dalwhinnie, bottle of Elmer T. Lee bourbon (delightful), and this evening a bottle of Canadian Club Sherry Cask whiskey. This was something I had never seen at our provincial liquor stores before, but very much enjoyed it. Slight nose of maple syrup or toffee with caramel and spice and a hint of sweetness from the sherry. Punches above it's weight in terms of cost.

Picked up a bottle of Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 (Solera Gran Reserva, the 1 L bottle) in the duty free. But won't open it until I have less open rum bottles. I'm still working on open Havana Club Añejo 7 años, Barcelo Imperial, Brugal Siglo de Oro and Barcelo Añejo.

Would like to pick up some Haitian stuff if I can find it next time I'm on Hispaniola but never seen anything that was not from Brugal or Barcelo in the shops there.

Update: Just picked up a bottle of Pyrat XO at a liquor store. I'm quite curious for it as people either love or hate it in the reviews for its distinctive taste.
But I think I'll not order any rums over the internet as they all are crazy expensive here (the Pyrat XO is 32 - 39 EUR) and I can pick up a bottle of Barcelo Imperial for 13 EUR (directly in D.R., where me, family or friends are appr. 4 times a year), it scores usually very very high in all the rankings and I subjectively like it a lot (and that's all that counts).

bought 6 bottles of South African wine. I was at a great resteraunt with a fantastic somalier, probrably the nicest I have ever met. he was very friendly. anyway, we went two nights out of 3 to the same resteraunt, and each time had a talk with the somalier, and then I asked him to recomend the 6 best botlles of South African wine that I could get for about 50 bucks a piece. what ever type, but good representatives of south african wine. he wrote me a list and recomended a store and I poped over there and bought the wine and they packed it for shipping for me.

The Jouanchicot is very floral and fruity, much more of a Cognac profile than the others, and quite feminine. It was my wife's choice, and is all ugni blanc. The others are all baco, which makes a very rich, powerful, masculine spirit. The '71 is, according to the owner, about as perfect an Armagnac as he has tasted, and the '90s are very good, very powerful and no doubt the same vintage, when bottled in fifteen years or so from the same cask will be similar to the '71. Each has a very different profile. Haven't tried the Calvados yet, but it smells great.

Armagnac gets a bit more gold when it ages in the casks longer. The 1990 is the youngest.

Ahhh, gotcha. I thought they were Calvados, that is why I was confused. They look awesome, enjoy!

Nice! Supposedly this year's run is less woody than the past one, I'm sure it will be great.

Here is something interesting:

4423492795_f7cb9d97dd.jpg

House Spirits Whiskey - managed to get a couple bottles of the inaugural release of this stuff. One I opened and one is in storage. Happy I got two! Fruity sweetness and some very floral elements on the nose, sweet again on the palate with hints of tea. Long drying finish. A very cool drink.

Also, Rollercoaster.
