Why do MBAs always refer to the name of the college of business, rather than the name of the university? I never hear people in other fields do this, but for MBAs it's always Wharton instead of U Penn or Sloan instead of MITOriginally Posted by ComboOrgan
Same as Kellogg grads don't say Northwestern, or Stern for NYU... I think it's just more instant brand recognition, unless it's HBS where the university itself has a big brand name. MIT gets associated with math and science, so people like to differentiate. Wharton has far more cachet than the rest of UPenn (same as with NYU), and Haas doesn't make you sound like you're a hippy. In general it has to do with the B-school outshining the rest of the university, or it has to do with differentiating from the perception of the school as a whole.
