I dropped off a pair of jeans and cords the other day. They charged me $35 for "de-boot-cuttng" the jeans and $45 for taking the waste of the cords in 1.5". I will gladly pay that because to me it seems like a small price to put unwearable clothing back in the rotation.

i haven't read through this entire thread to see if it was already posted, but the converse repair store on hyperion (next to trader joe's and the cheese shop) can resolder/rescrew jean buttons that have fallen off for about 5 dollars. I brought in a pair of Corpus jeans this weekend and they were ready in a few minutes. they do a good job too.

In regards to crotch blowout, what are the advantages of taking my jeans to a denim specialist like Denim Doctors over a run-of-the-mill laudramat's alteration person?

denim doctors know what they're doing....

If that's what Denim Doctors are charging, good lord that's robbery. My guy would charge 1/4th of that price.

Ha. Had you looked him up you probably would have found out he also does denim alterations for most of the Hollywood Hills/Los Feliz area and was on TV because of it, but yeah, to each their own.

Guess he must have been horrible if I gave him as a personal rec.

I think you are looking too deeply into this. I wanted a quick fix to my problem and the denim doctors came highly recommended. I really didn't put much thought into it I just wanted my pants fixed.

Maybe I need to look for another denim tailor but I will wait to see how these first ones turn out.

didnt see if anyone mentioned this, but rising sun opened in old town pasadena, i've taken several pairs to be hemmed, my PBJs and APCs, without asking they saved the denim from the PBJs but their chain stitching machine must have been broken or somethin when they hemmed my PBJs cuz they gave me the loosest chain stitch and it actually dropped a stitch, but on the APCs it was spot on, it was 16$ for a hem and they said 50$ish for a taper http://www.risingsunjeans.com/ took back in my PBJs and they happily took them and are currently restitching the hem with a tighter stitch, heavier thread, and smaller hem size (the original size which they accidently did not replicate)
