Your honest opinion about Lands' End shirts and ties

I love a variety of styles (Italian, British, classic preppy, etc.) and I love the classic preppy looks from Polo Ralph Lauren. Since I live in Canada, I'm unable to order from the online Ralph Lauren website because they don't ship to Canadian addresses.

So . . . I found Lands' End online and I find that a lot of their shirts and ties reflect the same preppy attitude and styles that are the cornerstone of the Polo Ralph Lauren brand. In the past three years, I've purchased numerous shirts and ties from Lands' End online and I really enjoy them.

What do all of you think of Lands' End shirts and ties? I would really appreciate honest responses.

I have bought a few clothes from Lands' End about a month ago(no dress shirts or ties, however). They offer excellent value for money, compared to the offerings here in Sydney, especially in terms of quality or fabric and construction. Comparing to Ralph Lauren, I am not too sure, because I haven't really checked out their goods(I didn't want to check out goods above my means).

I have a Land's End knit tie that I love. Its far nicer than the knit ties by either Polo or J Crew--both of which I think are a bit flimsy (even for knits).

For about $30, their basic pinpoint shirts (not the non-iron shirts) are a pretty good value. The best thing about LE is that they stand behind their products. You can return anything at any time for just about any reason if you aren't satisfied.

In adition to LE ties and shirts, I've also ordered over the past three years several of their custom shirts (well, they're not quite custom or bespoke but rather, they are made-to-measure), causal pants such as l;inen and seersucker, and also several pairs of their dress shoes and business casual shoes. Overall, I'm very happy with their quality considering the value for the money.

Concerning Polo Ralph Lauren, only one high-end store in Edmonton offers it and I try to snatch up whatever I can when they're on sale at the end of the season. I also own several made-to-measure suits and several MTM shirts from a high-end retailer in town and of course I also buy off the rack. My basic rule of thumb for buying is that I buy what I like as long as the aulity is good. The quality doesn't necessarily have to be that of bespoke or even high-end retail but so long as the quality is not shoddy or cheap but the garments are made with quality tailoring and attention to details.

Lands End clothing is a pretty good value. I like that fact that there are several sleeve length options and that inseam lengths can be specified to the .25 inch. I believe that the non-iron dress shirts are great, but I am not exactly keen on the ties.
I have a LE tie and it looks geat (Navy with a repeating crossed swords pattern). It is thick and the construction is solid. The problem is, that I can't tie a decent knot with it. This is strange because I never have problems with knots.

I may return it, but I haven't decided yet.

probrably until I was 30, or so just about all of my shirts were lands end. very good value. some of those shirts lasted 8-10 years, and were in perfectly good shape when I gave them away.

I'll echo what everyone else is saying...

Lands' End shirts are a great bargain. The quality of their cloth and stitching far exceed most competitors in the same price range (~$30-$50), plus they have practically every combination of neck and sleeve length available. If you don't like it, they have a no-questions-asked return policy.

I am also surprised that Lands' Ends tailored fit shirts fit closer to the body than Brooks Brothers' slim fit equivalent. For basic wardrobe staples, this company is hard to beat.

I must say that their shirts are very high quality. I was given one as a gift many years ago and it has really held up well.

I bought the "wool bar stripe tie" and like it. I would buy it again.

They used to offer great bowties for just like $10 each

You can get a good solid look from Lands End by buying some chinos, OCBDs, and polos.

I've never been a huge fan of thier ties except the bow ties.

Oh, and don't forget a canvas tote with your initials on it as a picnic basket

I'm going to against the grain here and say that I haven't had anything hold up for more than two seasons of wearing. The custom shirts get frayed at the collar and cuffs even though I drip-dry them and I had two pairs of custom pants that developed holes in the legs after wearing them less than 20 times. Currently I have a pair of twills whose hem is fraying that I purchased this time last year and only wear in the fall/winter and I have a stack of cashmere sweaters that have completely lost their shape.

Oh, and then there's the t-necks whose necks are stretched to the point that they look like v-necks even though I buy new ones every year.

After the last batch of custom shirts had their collars fray even though I've had them less than a year and wear them once every other week, well, I'm thinking of availing myself of their return policy.

That's sad to hear!

My oldest shirt in my wardrobe is from 1995 and I still wear it to this day. No joke!

All my Lands' End shirts were purchased within the past three years and I've had no problems with any of them.

I rotate between wears on virtually everything I own. Currently, I have over 100 dress shirts hanging up (NO JOKE!!!), over 120 ties, over 15 pairs of pants, over 15 pairs of shoes, and 28 suits and sportcoats (combined) not including the ones I've given away or stored away in previous years. I also have a classic DB tuxedo purchased way back in 1996. (The tux looks contemporary to this day. It doesn't look dated, I swear.)

There are times when a particular item in my wardrobe may only be worn by me only 3 or 4 times a year!!!! I don't think my clothes will EVER wear out!
