yet another suit alteration question

sorry to ask another one of these, but:

Is it possible to take alter a jacket from a 40L to a 40R without throwing the button stance out of whack? It means losing 1.25" -- from a 33.75" to a 32.5" The jacket is a 2 and a half button, fwiw.

I think you'll be able to do it. It depends on a lot of factors
- pocket style, distance to bottom button, distance from pockets, etc - take it to your tailor. My tailor told me that shortening a jacket 2 inches would be a problem, but 1 inch should be fine.
