Wow I'm overwhelmed! Need advice!

First off I want to say what a great forum. I thought I knew what I was doing but really I don't. So much information and to be honest it's been an information overload.

Ive searched these forums but still hoping someone can steer me to what I'm looking for. I'm tall and and skinny (6'3" and 170lbs) and its tough to find the perfect suit. I have a 39 inch chest with a 32 waist plus long arms which doesnt help. I have a few in rotation but the two I get compliments on are my emporio and paul smith. They fit me great, but the more I research, the more I read everyone piling on those brands for lack of quality. So what brand should I look into with a budget of up to $1200? Off the rack or made to measure? I want something that fits great to my slim frame, along with something very modern but not crazy. Also looking into a recognizable brand that has some quality in it. Please help!

This should be a start, but you will have to make the tough decisions on your own. The OTR/MTM/Bespoke debate is an interesting one, my personal opinion is that going OTR is lowest risk, and altering OTR to fit is the safest bet for most people; I think you should be able to find a 39L drop 7 suit. Some of the most common suggestions for brands with a good range of fits for <$1200 are Brooks Brothers (various lines), Samuelsohn, and Suit Supply; however, you may be able to find higher-end brands for the same money depending on your preferences and patience.

39L is an unusual suit size. Also, replacing existing, attractive, non-deteriorated suits just based on hobbyist opinions seems unwise. One quality option out there (with 39L) is Ben Silver, but it's not a big-name brand and probably isn't worth the risk unless it can be tried on before buying.

Only one thing you need to know. Ralph Lauren Black Label. Once you go Black, you won't go back. I'm approximately the same size as you, and RLBL fits like a glove. Zero jacket tailoring off the rack. You'll probably be a 42L in RLBL. There's a sale going on now, but it's at the end, so most of the sizes are gone. If you up your budget a few hundy, you can grab a stable charcoal or navy. Trust me, it's worth it.

I troll Ebay constantly for 42L models. I bet I've bought the last three that showed up on there.

Also look into Paul Stuart's Phineas Cole line.

Regarding the 39L; it's true that it's not a common size, but the best bet to find them would be the Brooks Brothers Milano cut.
