SB, if that glen plaid was bolder (black and white threads instead of dark grey and light grey) it would be great. It's the right scale IMO. My usual RTW brand was selling something like what I describe last F/W season and I quite regret not buying it... it's so difficult to find nice grey sport coats of the rack, most look like suit coats.

^ UC, nice (and great fitting coat), but I think it needs brown shoes.

They are brown :embar:

Was thinking, though, that maybe a chestnut or tan shoe might balance it out better...

Heh, I almost wrote 'needs (lighter) brown shoes' in case they weren't black :)

It may just be the pic or my screen, but they do look very dark. I don't think you'd have to go all the way to a tan, but a pair in a 'normal' dark brown would be great, I think.

I tend to agree.

SB, I'm as far from an old head as one can get, but the place I work sells a jacket in a similar pattern and color, and though I like it, I have never seen the right trouser pairing for it. I guess really light gray flannels would work with this one ("mine" is worsted), but I'm not certain.

Ed, how do you feel about gray herringbone tweeds? I have two, but that's the luck of the draw (thrifting).

+1 on asking UC who makes that button down shirt. It looks classic, very nice

And I really envy him for having been able to wear tweed until now. I have been trying some RTW tweeds today and man, do I miss winter...

I'm sorry if the coat is not bespoke, but I'm going to nitpick on your lapels, UC. In my opinion, those lapels lack taste and shape, they're just out of proportion and flat. Unfortunately, I don't have enough spare time to explain the issue with my own words, but both Vox and Alden have already written about this subject.

Here is Vox's take on the subject:
Quote:

To say it more accurately, the lower the roll, and the less actual roll in the lapel, the wider the lapel will be on the chest.
- B

Here is Alden's with an addendum where he seems to be very on par with Vox's analysis about the "high" belly:

VE, perhaps you're seeing something that we can't, but those descriptions don't seem to match UC's picture.

The lapels start thin and blow very wide, no roll to soften this. Bellow is the photograph that Alden used to illustrate his point. Except for the square notch, they look very similar to me.

To my eye, that doesn't look like UC's lapels. Plus using a picture of a guy slouched over with one side of jacket buckled from his position hardly seems like a useful illustration of anything.
