Which shell cordovan color shows ripples less?

You inquired about noticeablility; we're not to assume all colors are equally noticeable as if they were the same color, are we?

I owned two pairs of Alden shell chukkas; one in #8 the other in cigar. Exact same size, bought both new, with age about 4-5 months apart. I found the ripples to be more noticeable on the cigar pair because the color of cigar was lighter than #8.

Yes, I think so. It's one of the reasons I like PTBs, especially in whiskey, but the ripples show well in darker colors of PTBs such as black and #8 also.
