When is the best time to buy from Allen Edmonds?

From what I've seen, there is no best time. Earlier this year, I bought a pair of Neumoras for $190 shipped and McAllisters for $200 shipped, but they were much more expensive in the last few sales. It seems like you have to pick your shoe and watch for the best prices.

This. Most styles of AE have at least one sale where that style is marked down to $200 at Amazon, Nordstrom or AE.

Most shoes will have some minor "cosmetic defect," but that doesn't necessarily make them seconds. I'm not sure if your shoe is one or not. The fact that you got a discount and they had to ship them to you makes me curious though. Why did you get the discount, and why didn't you get a pair that was in store?

The salesman in store claimed it is out of stock, so they had it shipped to my address. I don't know small little scratch is the norm. The discount I get is because that style is on sale/clearance I recall.

Does AE have a major / biggest of the year sale every October?

I have hear that a big one is coming this year, and am curious if it runs this way every year.

The rediscover America sale is definitely one of the best. However, if I remember correctly, around Christmas they had insanely good deals on seconds--multiple styles for $99-$149. At this point and after this many shoes, I almost exclusively buy AE seconds (9 times out of 10, the flaw is unnoticeable except to the trained eye, plus, after I wear them once or twice they will be seconds anyway), unless there is a style that I really love and want the warranty of the 1st quality.
