Spaceman stuff will never go out of fashion. Ain't that right Buck?

For office attire, from the early nineties I think of suspenders and tab collars - perhaps a continuation of the late 80's. From the late nineties, I think Gap and business casual. Both cause me to shudder.

I think the '96-'99 or so minimalistic trim cut suits by Helmut Lang, Prada, etc. were iconic and very cool. Many of them used advanced weaving to produce a 100% wool fabric with some give that was quite comfortable and practical. Prada also brought comfortable rubber soled leather footwear to the market that was meant to be worn with a suit. It was a real wake-up-call that you could be dressy and comfortable. My wife still mentions how much she loved me in trim black suits and white shirts from that era.

The Tom Ford sexy look with well-fitted black suits galore.

White open shirts with slim black suits and many nights out in different clubs.

Funny. I was watching Cruel Intentions (released in '99) last night. Aside from a few obvious gaffs like buttoning the bottom button, I was continually struck by how much I didn't hate Ryan Phillipe's suit ensembles. Broken down bit-by-bit there were a lot of elements that would normally make me cringe - high-buttoning, hard-roll 3 button coats with center vents, Regis Philbin-esque tie and shirt monotone - but taken as a whole the outfits looked good and not terribly off base from some of the stuff groupthink likes here. Everything fit well - very trim, and, aside from the Philbin thing, was classically conservative. If he would have swapped a white or blue shirt for the green one in the beginning he would have looked downright sharp.

Today I am wearing a suit I bought around 2000. It has a high-buttoning, hard-roll 3 button coat with a center vent.

^^^the two very bad things that ruined that cool late 90's suit look were 1) the matching tie and shirt a la Regis Philbin and 2) Platypus toed shoes

Yeah, I liked Helmut Lang and Jil Sander from those years. APC was very good then too: Slim cord suits, white shirts, merino v-neck pullovers.

May as well include everything.. Windows98 Second Edition and the internet,
from which the mysteries of the world were revealed.
