You are an electrical engineer and want a purely scientific explanation for everything. My background is not in EE and I don't feel the need to make some argument. The papers I linked lay the foundation for that argument.
You can't have it both ways. You could just say, "I prefer hi-res PCM due to my recording experience with it", and leave it at that, and I would have no argument with you.
But you've brought up technical reasons why you may prefer hi-res or why hi-res is better. At that point, you have invited technical discussion, and all that implies.
And just as I have not assigned ulterior motivations to your arguments in this discussion, I would ask that you extend the same courtesy to me. We should discuss the facts and leave everything else out.
I also like to use my God-given brains in addition to my ears. We can measure with far higher resolution than we can hear. However, we do not necessarily know how to interpret the data.Ultimately, audio phenomena is complex and cannot be fully measured or scientifically explained. We must rely on our God-given ears which are the most precise instrument of all.
