Hello everyone,

So I bought this Hugo Boss tuxedo second hand and I am wondering if this is a certain style or collor type.
on the internet I can not find anything related so I was wondering if it can be defined as a tuxedo.
It is less grey than the picture shows.
Also wondering what kind of shirt will match this style, or if it is own preference.

Thanks in advance

It's clearly meant to be eveningwear but it's not in a classic tuxedo style. It's a weird mix between a shawl collar and peak lapel, which is why you can't find similar styles online. I would not wear this to an event with an explicit black tie dress code.

I personally would recommend letting this go. If you really want to keep it, I could see wearing it to a casual fun holiday party or similar event.

@breakaway01 Thank you for your answer. I do have to say the rest of the suit has the details of a tuxedo, so Hugo Boss did try to make it for tuxedo style events I guess.

For this wedding of someone I barely know during New years eve where everyone gets proper tipsy, I guess I don’t care too much if people will notice, if they even do.
Buying this one was cheaper than renting, and it fits very well.

For the future I might want to look for a proper shawl collar OR peak lapel you say?

If it fits you well, I’d say it’s a cool alternative to the classic tuxedo that you can wear to black-tie events that are a little loose with tradition (i.e. creative black-tie or NYE parties). I’ve seen fellas at black-tie events wearing “tuxedos” that don’t even come as close as your example so if you get the other details right and just own the fact that you’re pushing slightly into fashion territory, you’ll be fine. If it were me, I’d make sure to nail the rest of the ensemble—proper evening shirt, bow-tie, waist covering, black silk socks and appropriate shoes. Maybe hang on to that one as your “fun” tuxedo and grab something more traditional later down the road… something with one button instead of two and either a shawl or peak lapel.
