Wedding Guest Attire Question: Ties

Hello all,

I'm going to a friends wedding in late October, the invitation says semi-formal. I'm probably wearing a navy suit. I was thinking of wearing a Burgundy Grenadine tie (Sam Hober, which is probably my favorite tie), wasn't sure if it would be considered accetable wedding attire or if I should go with something more conservative? Also while I'm asking, are wool ties considered accetable for fall/winter weddings?

I haven't been to many weddings in my life and this is probably the first in a long line coming up in the next couple of years, so any suggestions for what to wear would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Grad

This is one of those things: there is a technical definition of semi-formal, and then there's what everyone thinks semi-formal is.

The technical definition is black-tie (in the evening), or a morning coat or stroller (in the day time).

If I had to guess, your friend doesn't know this definition and expects people to wear a suit and tie. To be safe, you might want to ask what he means.

Definitely not black-tie.
