It's my understanding that kangaroo is light yet strong- why it is prized for soccer shoes- but maybe softness is not part of that equation. Some of the calfs, etc. that Viberg has used have appeared soft and not overly burnished in photos. The horsebutt option for the burgundy suggestion was a concession made by looking at Viberg's Instagram and seeing what leathers are up and coming, trying to avoid suggesting options that aren't feasible. A whole bunch of stabbing in the dark here.
It always starts with some blind stabs, and slowly comes together.

Model: Chukka
Last: 2030
Leather: Black Waxed Flesh
Construction: Stitchdown
Sole: Brown Crepe
Eyelets: 3 eyelets- Gunmetal
Toebox: partially constructed toe (pingpong)
Notes: Natural flat welt

The inspiration for these came from a pair of natural waxed chukka boots that I saw here a while back (pictured below). Imagine them in black waxed flesh with a more bulbous structured toe box, natural flat welt, and brown crepe sole similar to the derby shoes in the second pic. I call them the Midnight Riders.

I call them the Midnight Riders.

You can run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Run on for a long time
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Sooner or later God'll cut you down
Go tell that long tongue liar
Go and tell that midnight rider
Tell the rambler,
The gambler,
The back biter
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down
Tell 'em that God's gonna cut 'em down

Nice! I also like this one:

I gotta run to keep from hidin'
I'm bound to keep on ridin'
An' I got one more silver dollar
An' I ain't gonna let 'em catch me, no
I ain't gonna let em catch the midnight rider
Well, these ain't my clothes I'm wearin'
An' this ol' road goes on forever
An' I got one more silver dollar
An' I ain't gonna let 'em catch me, no
I ain't gonna let 'em catch the midnight rider
Well, I've gone by the point of carin'
Some ol' bed, I'll soon be sharin'
An' I got one more silver dollar
An' I ain't gonna let 'em catch me, no
I ain't gonna let 'em catch the midnight rider

Model: Service boot
Last: 2030
Leather: heather gray smooth side or something similar
Construction: Stitchdown
Sole: Natural with dainite
Eyelets: 7 eyelets- Gunmetal
Toebox: plain toe, unstructured or partially constructed toe

Would love to see something with a gray leather plain toe service boot. similar to LA Guy's make up but with smooth side out.. Not sure what Viberg has available if any but really digging the heather gray against the gunmetal eyelets.

That reminds me, LA Guy did you ever post the part 3/3 regarding your boots? I could only find parts 1 and 2

I have the pics. I just have never had time (there was a delay in receiving the pics) to posting them and commenting on them. I'll need to do that.

I'd like to throw in another Slipper proposal. There have only been a handful so far, but they all use the leather sole. I'd like to see a version on something like the Mini Ripple.

Model: Slipper
Last: 40218
Leather: Natural kangaroo
Construction: Goodyear welt, channelled insole
Sole: Leather midsole and wedge heel, white Vibram Mini Ripple outsole
Eyelets: N/A
Toe: Unstructured (standard Slipper construction)

I'm not entirely decided on the leather. Kudu, reindeer, or even some of the horsehide (I liked the tumbled brown from the last GMTO), but it depends on what's available.

If you want to get really kinky, we could always ask Viberg to dye it in Indigo...

Vibram do a number of interesting soles, such as the Optitank, the Mini Ripple in camouflage, and the Acqua in Ecostep. The Sole Factor catalogue lists these. So there's the opportunity to be even more adventurous.

Would love to see the last part and the finished product, feels so incomplete. You think they have that leather to make a similar make up?

What's the rules on similar make ups for GMTO? Saw Brooklynclothing getting cap toe #8 but I wanna propose one anyway

Model: Service boot
Last: 2030
Leather: #8 CXL
Construction: Stitchdown
Sole: Antique colored midsole with dainite
Eyelets: 7 eyelets- Gunmetal
Toebox: plain toe, unstructured or partially constructed toe

I just really love the 2030 plain toe model

We are not going to do things that look too similar to "unique" makeups from other places, but a #8 CXL captoe seems fairly standard.

Yeah, I'm swamped. but I'll see what I can do about completing the series (it's a bit of work) to document the entire process. The leather was a one of leather, unfortunately.

Cheers,

Fok.
