Okay I'm sure this has been asked and answered 100 times…but differences between 2020 and 2030? Photos – especially from overhead – would be very helpful.

Hope everyone's hanging in there…

I feel like you just answered your own question
Its also very different aesthetic from the horse leathers provided domestically, it feels closer to a dress calf leather. Its also neat in the aspect that its full vegetable tanned.

On that note, this is relevant to something that crossed my mind recently. Viberg stated that they are changing some of their materials in order to use more natural products (leather toe puff, wooden shanks). While I prefer steel shanks for longevity - I respect taking a stand on this.

But then they recently released their first chromepak boot in years. Chromepak is a notable step in the opposite direction of their stated intent - a less natural tanning process that is godawful for the environment. I've heard Horween say they aren't doing it much anymore for exactly that reason.

All this to say, the stated intent of using natural materials rings a bit hollow when it's inconsistently applied.

/rant

Also maybe this rant is really just because want steel shanks back and toe puffs in plain toes that don't look like phantom cap toes.

If i were to knock it is the glaze finish makes it feel like a couch leather. I agree on your comment about conflicting reports. I assume they are also taking pre orders due to the covid situation. The cap toes coming from viberg are pretty skewed. I think golden era viberg is out. To get a boot thats closer to the qc from a few years back is getting harder and harder. Recently ordered two pairs of chromepak in sz9 since supposedly that leather is really hard to work with, and both pairs were not up to pair from anything ive received from them.

I didn't realize Chromepak in particular was bad for the environment, more than other chrome tanned leathers.

The leather toe puffs are a hair thicker for sure, the toe caps on the most recent chromepaks look very truman esque.

Do wooden shanks break often? I know that most of the UK makers us them as does Viberg on their naildown construction work boots but I’ve never see anything about the shanks breaking in the Tricker’s or C&J threads.

Wooden shank durability is somewhat of an issue IIRC from what DWF has said in the past. Can be replaced during a resole if need be. Seems like Viberg uses the wooden shanks on naildown work boots since naildown construction is notoriously stiff. Obviously metal shanks are more durable overall though. My JM Weston’s use wooden shanks and I have no complaints thus far. I’d prefer metal shanks and leather toe puffs.

I don’t really get the excitement over Chromepak since it’s a full chrome tannage and nothing special. It’s also not hard to work with. Guy and Brett have both stated that it’s easy to work with in the past.

I think it would be more involved than a standard resole, requiring the midsole to come off.

What is the relevance of how difficult it is to work with?

Yeah the only ones who said it was difficult to work with was Truman when they did a Reddit GMTO years ago.

I purchased these long time ago and barely worn em cause they were hard to put on and fit a bit too tight in the forefront/toe box.
I probably sized wrong (down 1) and went down .5 instead. I want to get rid of these. Not sure how much I should let them go for lol...

Also barely see this makeup anymore with the blind 8 eyelets.
Most retailers I see carry plain toe cap with 7 metal eyelets.
Any other stock list that may carry this makeup? Trying to find a replacement in my correct size.
