On all the single vented jackets I wear, the vent catches on itself and they stick straight back. What is causing this problem and what is the solution?

Could be a condition known as scuttlebutt.

this is one of the inherent problems of single vents (for me anyways) and is i believe one of the reasons why it is so unpopular here.

it catches on itelf and sometimes will form a 'bell' shape from the side view which is very aesthetically displeasing.

It could also be the fabric of the suit

Yes I get this myself a bit. Will follow this thread - Perhaps a tailor of the forum can shed some light on to getting it altered to drop without sticking out? Is this possible?

The manner in which vents hang is first about your posture/jacket balance and then your girth. Short backs make the vent kick out, long backs make the vent cross over and not hang straight. Large posterior, self explanatory. The cloth that goes under the vent is usually too skimpy in most RTW and that doesn't help the situation and can be the root cause of skuttlebutt.

^ that is a long back, jacket is sitting on your hips. Pick the jacket up at the center back and the vent straightens up.
Tailor needs to pin the back up across the back over the blades until the vent straightens. Open the side seams and shorten the back the amount pinned. Voila!

This alteration has worked wonders for so many of my jackets.

Be careful, or surgical approaches can tragically like it did with Miss Argentina.
That certainly puts all these SF tailoring tragedies into perceptive. [IMG]
