Tying a bat wing bow tie...

Good gentlemen of Style Forum, I come here to humbly ask for help. :ember:

I picked up a beautiful 2" black bat wing bow tie that I intend to wear for New Years and have no previous experience tying a bow tie before. I've followed some pictorial instructions to get it tied and I feel that I have been able to get a bow tied that is the right width (about the width of my face) and fits around my neck.

HOWEVER, I am worried that the narrower section of the bow tie that goes around my neck is too short, even though the overall tie length seems correct. I feel like the portion I am working with that forms the knot is too wide and must bunch a lot to give the proper proportion. Is this just the way batwing bow ties work (as opposed to the thistle shape that narrows in the knot)? I would like to know whether I need to sack up and tie a better knot or if the tie is too small for me (I have a 14.75" neck, so if it is too small it is a Charvet tie made for a child with a face as wide as a football).

Cheers and Happy New Year!

Thanks, this is a very good video. I only wish it were a little closer in and slowed down. It did confirm my suspicions that the tie is at its full width at the knot. The more you know...

Okay, I'm back.

The video above seems to suggest that you tie a batwing bow by having a somewhat chubby guy with an Aussie accent come by and tie it for you.

If I'm right, that is awesome. I know because I have bows from that guy.

Only farmers tie their own ties.
