Two Broken HM Eames Lounge Chairs rotting in Storage

Inherited two fairly well treated HM Eames Lounge Chairs, but during the Estate Sale clean-out, both chairs broke at the shock-mounts, due to heavy people sitting on them, after decades of belonging to light weights.

Now they are rotting in storage.

I'd like to fix one and keep it and sell the other.

I need advice on where/how to get it repaired without paying a fortune.

Got one quote, $1000 to repair one (not counting freight)

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm in San Diego, CA.

Depending on how large the individuals were, shockmount failure is the chair's Achilles Heel and isn't uncommon.

I suggest the Design Addict forum (and post pictures if possible).

Might be an interesting discussion.

If you have time, I know I have seen posts on how to repair it yourself. It didn't seem terribly difficult.

I got a big fright when you said "rotting in storage" I hope you didn't literally mean rotting! In our storage facilities, there are normally a lot of options like climate control and our staff normally give lots of advice how to maintain the quality of your furniture item. In any case, HM is normally pretty good with servicing, so if you want to maintain the quality (and you don't mind shelling out since the chairs are obviously out of warranty), try sending them back to headquarters.
