As winter rolls through in New York and the fresh fallen snow turns to a slushy mess, thoughts of Spring are in mind as I consider a glaring void in my wardrobe: a raincoat. My criteria are: 100% cotton/natural fabric, well made but updated, wearable in warm rainstorms and in a navy or dark blue. I tried the classic khaki Burberry trench is it wasn't for me. After considering a variety of options, I am about to purchase a Trunk Cavendish coat. It's made in Japan and the quality looks pretty good to me, but as I don't have the chance to check it out in person, I wanted to ask if anyone else on SF had experience or opinions on this coat.

Update on this for any who are interested. I ended up buying this from Trunk. The service was exemplary and was packed well. It is extremely well tailored, the Japanese cotton gabardine is a lovely matte texture, it has real horn buttons, a semi-raglan sleeve construction, and the size 50 hits me at the knee at my height of 5ft. 9 inches. I recommend this coat highly.

Grabbed this coat last night at 2/3 off. Really looking forward to it and glad it has served you well. Can I just ask what your chest measurement is? I sized down to a 48 with a 40 chest and am hoping it works out...

That's a good deal! My chest measures about 41.5 inches. The 50 fits me well in a modern, slim fitting and elegant raincoat. I have no regrets. I'm amazed at how well stitched everything is.

That's really good to hear! I considered taking a 50, but was worried I could not shorten the sleeves as much as I needed to, given the adjustable cuff, as I've got somewhat short arms.
