Anyone have experience with this place. Your thoughts about the food, the setting, the service?

I need to host a dinner following a late meeting ... and this place is very convenient.

Another place under consideration is Eleven Madison Park.

it (was) good! it's been a couple of years, and haven't been to 'new' location

emp is white hot now as far as trendoid buzz goes b/c of nyt review awhile ago. by all accounts, praise was deserved, but be aware of 'foodies' flocking...

toqueville very much under the radar

Thanks for the tips.

i quite like Toqueville and have eaten there 2-3 times in the past two months, though always at the bar. The uni carbonara (the uni is provided by their high end sushi brother, 15 East), truffled grits, foie duo, and tuna starters are consistently great.

EMP is one of my favorites and on a whim I'd go to EMP, but it's a much different scene. As mentioned, EMP is the hot restaurant at the moment. I'd go to Tocqueville to get away from the crowd with some family and friends. Others in the general area worth considering are Union Square Cafe, Grammercy Tavern, and Maialino (all owned by the same people who run EMP). Aldea is also fantastic.

Went there about a month ago and surprisingly enjoyed it, given that it was very easy to get a table. Foie gras was very good. Had read reports about uneven service, but I thought service was good. Went to EMP about a year ago (?), and at that time, I thought it was typical high-end NYC restaurant. Haven't tried since re-do, and probably won't - seems like too much work.

Tocqueville is great. I am not a fan of the decor but the food is very good, and service is pleasant.

EMP is more interesting and probably a small notch above in execution though.

Really ... I was okay with the food and the decor ... as well as the size of the place.

Understood about EMP. But I'm booking for a fairly large party ... and I can't get in on the night we need. Tocqueville will do just fine.
