Ties - length

Am I the only one who bemoans the apparent demise of ties in menswear with the move to casualisation of appearances? Then again, it makes one stand out and look superior if one wears a nice tie in such an environment.

In that regard, has anyone considered or researched the standards in relation to tie length? I've found by luck that some ties (e.g. Hermes, Zegna) seem to be good length for me, but many other makes (e.g. Rhodes & Beckett, some Hugo Boss) can be much too long even if I use up the maximum length by tying a Windsor knot. Would be good to know of premium makers that keep their tie lengths on the shorter side.

You can get ties custom made in the length you want through Sam Hober, Vanda Fine Clothing, EG Cappelli, or Chipp Neckwear, among other places. Alternatively, you can have ready-made ties shortened through TieCrafters.

Thanks, will look into TieCrafters. Any similar services in Europe or Asia that others are aware of?

Vanda Fine Clothing does custom width and length and they are based in Singapore. I have had 2 ties from them and they are my go to ties (the length fits! - especially when you only wear high waist trousers..).

Does anyone know of similar resources for knit ties in shorter lengths?

No idea, unfortunately. Knit ties have to be made on a machine. I assume it's harder to customize them because they require minimums, not something you can cut and sew at a workshop.

I don't know those markets very well, but the person's suggestion above (Vanda) sounds good.

Thanks. I guess I'll have to add this to the list of reasons I tell my kids they need to drink their milk and grow up big and strong (unlike their dad).

"Do you want the arms on alpha-sized sport shirts to fit you properly?" hasn't had quite the persuasive force I was hoping for

Apparently 40 Colori will do knit ties made-to-order, as Simon reports here. I'm interested to see how his turns out.
