This herringbone overcoat works with a suit?

I'm looking for a new overcoat, I currently have a steel grey from Zegna and would like one with different color pattern. The Zegna is also 2 button and I would like 3 or 4 to be more closed.

Do you think grey herringbone works with a suit (charcoal or navy) or is the pattern to "busy", to informal? I would use it as a workhorse, for business travelling and going to the office and also work with more casual attire?

Here's one I've been looking out for:

It's too hot in Houston to need an overcoat but my mate back in England has a lighter colour gray chesterfield in herringbone which looks just as nice dressed up with a suit as it does dressed down with moleskin strides, desert boots and a cardigan. Go for it!

Nice choice for the purpose. Plain weave navy would be too formal: Navy plain weave > grey herringbone > tweed IMO.

Yes: few people have enough overcoats for 'match' to be a consideration. In any event the objective is to keep warm and dry and not to appease a few diehards that tsk at things.
