I finally am able to summarize how I feel about one's feed on LinkedIn.

It's like everyone is trying to create a constant scroll of those horrible business motivational posters.

I'm only connected to one seriously rich rich dude (like multi-billionaire) on LinkedIn -- we worked together in banking in London in the 1990s and he went on to found his own hedge fund. His feed is wall to wall obvious high-class hookers and he accepts all their requests, no fux given. (Actually, probably lots of fux received, if you follow me.)

When I was ensconced in my long term gig I didn't pay much attention to LinkedIn. Then I felt like there were two types of people on LinkedIn: those that were useful to know, and those that wanted to know them. I was useful to know. After I became an unemployed bum I started accepting connect invitations, etc. and figured it was just good as some sort of TOMA thing. I soon hated it and just today figured out why.

Back in my big 4 accounting days, I linkedin a bunch of people. That's what you were expected to do along with repost a bunch of firm bullshit.

Now, I don't give a **** about anyone on linkedin unless it's an actual coworker sending me an invite. Most of my feed turned into Facebook with a bunch of idiots arguing politics.

It feels like it has gotten much worse. Lots of obviously fake stories like how someone gave $5 to a homeless guy who turned it into $1B in 6mo and now they won't accept anything from said newly minted billionaire.

Also a lot more politics creeping in. Lots of CEOs who think their political opinions matter.

I'm sure there's some good reason that they couldn't just be a place for people to post jobs and apply for jobs, but for the life of me I can't come up with it.

I never really paid much attention to LinkedIn other than occasionally looking were other coworkers who left my firm ended up. I typically will get a message from a recruiter every couple of months telling me how perfect I sound for a role. I'll always entertain it and it is typically 50% of what I currently make. I really don't understand these employers, do they seriously just have no clue about what the market pays?

I remember when I was very junior, first year of working I thought I was going to be fired for this email I sent that was flagged. At the time I was a shareholder of J.Crew when they were doing well. I wrote the CFO a letter noting all of these things he's accomplished for the firm since he joined and I asked for a job. About a week later HR called me and said wow, are CFO told us to call you and offer you a job, could you send a resume and we can see what would be a good fit? I was floored. Nobody realized I was just out of school and the only thing they offered me was some FP&A gig that was 20% less than I was already making. Well, I didn't get fired and I dodged that bullet.

Hmm, not surprised @Piobaire has linkedin, but somewhat shocked that @Omega Male does.

During my year off, I've noticed that most Linkedin posts fall into 2 categories. 1 - I've been hired/promoted to a position (usually they have no business being in). 2 - The nonsense bs/political/inspirational crap. The feed is basically garbage to me and I rarely go there anymore.

That said, I did land my last position (**** company) and my new position (hopefully not **** company) through their job board. The recruiter emails are hilarious. I'm keeping mine on just to see the dumpster fire that is going on. I got one the other day - Crime scene cleaning specialist.... :uhoh:

Pretty sure I am linked with at least 2 forum peeps.

All of this waiting is killing me, it is all I think about and I can barely concentrate on my current job.

Is it a 100% career change or something in the ballpark of what you currently do?
