The irony of Tiffany blue - a color described as originating from its association with Victorian bridal gifts and also having a sort of confectionary association (so perhaps a color meant to merge traditions of feminine ceremony with stereotypical feminine desires: "women love sweets" and "women love jewelry" so "let's package the jewelry to look like a delectable confection and/or traditional bridal trinket...think of the Pavlovian possibilities...") - becoming the most sought after expression of a men's sports watch...maybe kind of awesome?

The logo on the moon phase really kills it for me.

I’d love a plain vanilla 5740 with a Tiffany stamp on the dial. A great marriage of themes historically important to Patek: Nautilus + perpetual calendar + Tiffany.

I just don’t want or need the Tiffany blue dial.

thanks
Tacky, IMO.

And, to answer your question from the other day, I like the 5740 a lot. When it comes to Nautili, I am interested in the models that share sizing similar to that of the original - so the 5711, the 5712, and the 5740. I think the thinness is critical to the Nautilus.

Further, I am kind of fascinated by the sports watch and perpetual calendar together. It is such an illogical combination, but somehow it works.

That said, if I had my choice between models (I don't), I think I'd go with the AP RO PC:

I strongly prefer the triple sub-dial layout of the 5740. The RO PC’s dial, being completely filled with sub-dials, is less comfortable to look at, somewhat disorienting, and maybe even a little disturbing. Like a human face with an extra nose coming out of its forehead.

I know that you and I do not see eye to eye on the Tiffany stamp, but I despise it so much that I would turn down my dream Nautilus (5712) if it had the stamp.

But yeah, if you are offered the 5740, and had $135,000 lying around, I say go for it. Given the price, though, I would be tempted by other options (I'll take the 5236P, thank you very much!).

I’m cool with what you get for the price. Perpetual calendar in an all-gold bracelet watch for $135K is not ridiculous. But yes, there are always other things at that level that are also very interesting.

just because things are important separately doesn’t make them great together. Think ketchup+toothpaste+fish.

Talk about having to spend extra money for the watch you really want... $200k for the car, and they're only making 750 of them. Yet, they're making only 500 of the watch but it comes with the car? I'm not a mathmagician or anything, but there seems to be a problem with those figures...

It seems there is a special edition of the Chronograph 1 for purchasers of the car.

"As a counterpart to the new sports car, Porsche Design is producing 750 Chronograph 1 – 911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design watches exclusively for purchasers of the car. The watch is a nod to the original Chronograph 1, but with modern logos and fonts as well as details that evoke the car. The design of the oscillating rotor matches the wheels of the car, and the rotor cap bears the Porsche crest like the car’s center wheel locks."
