Though I think AE and Aldens pattern for LWB are king amongst other LWBs hehe :)

I said the same thing recently and then @smoothie1 challenged me on my statement. Ha, ha...

Now, what I say is that amongst the American makers AE and Alden are the classic makers of the LWB. Alden in particular...

These are what made me change my mind:

I don't like the balance of the LWB patterns from Carmina and EB. The C&J pattern is better, but still not as nice as the Alden pattern. AE's MacNeil pattern is terrible, but they improved it somewhat with the MacNeil 2.0.

Florsheim's LWB is the granddaddy, and it's the best. Alden's is most similar to it, IMO.

Meh, I think they're all good. Although CJ, Carmina, and EB all have nicer execution than AE and Alden. Alden is still most "iconic" Americana of the 5, I do agree.

I would guess in a blind lineup of longwings of identical leather most folks would struggle to pickout which is which

Its a cryin shame that the Florsheim are not longer made to the standards of previous generations...

I think what appeals to me the most about the EB is the sheer quality and level of intense craftsmanship that goes into every pair of those.

The older I get the more I favor refinement and elegance. When I where a pair of Alden LWB it is for casual comfort. The Barrie is so hard to beat for that.

The flat welt on Carmina is purdy as well.

I have an old pair of #8 Florsheim Imperials that I got on eBay upon selling off a pair of cigar Alden lwbs. I don't miss the Alden's at all.

I miss my #8 Florsheim LWB dearly. The only reason I sold them is because the fit wasn't quite right.
