Alden Black Long Wing Cordovan, natural leather visible under the black? is this normal? are there different qualities out there?

I've seen this before.

The holes are punched and the "hanging chads" are supposed to fall out automatically when they are punched. Sometimes they don't. The shoe is assembled with the chads still stuck in there. Someone in final quality control sees the chads stuck in there, and pulls them out.

On the other hand, I have never seen this in a cordovan shoe before...

I am trying to decide between the Tobacco longwing from J Crew and the walnut longwing from Winn Perry.

Any thoughts, opinions, or experiences with these two shoes??

while i think you'd certainly enjoy supporting a shop like winn perry over a place like j crew, i think it's ultimately down to what color you like best. other than that there is going to be little difference between the two.

To me:

Double Waterloc Soles (Winn Perry) > Leather Soles (J. Crew).

Less break in time and very comfortable. The J. Crew longwing has a little more red to it, almost like the Ravello shell. The Winn Perry version is a truer brown, actually a little darker than the pictures on their website. I have both, but if I had to choose one, I go with the Winn Perrys.

And if you wear my size, I would probably consider paying you that much for those boots,

I was watching that auction and gave up when I realised that retail was like 670 or so. Nice shoes, but hefty price to pay.

On another note, does anybody know what last the J Crew shell cap toe boots are on? The colour is described as burgundy, I am assuming its #8. Any thoughts?
