I agree that floating medallions are usually not great, but I have a couple from AS that I like, particularly these wholecut slip ons:

Although maybe they'd be better w/o a medallion.

A loafer is typically where you can let your hair down, so to speak. I actually think the medallion looks okay on these.

And I would do medallion on lace up or lazyman but definitely not loafer… guess it’s a me against the world day…

Brown wholecut can look really nice. Don’t like the ones you linked but e.g. these two pairs of seamless wholecuts by Jan Kielman look quite good IMO.

Inspired by the last few days' exchanges, here is something to make some of you squeamish: patinated wholecuts. As a bonus picture, wholecuts with a standard medallion.
