Believe me, I try my hardest not to ride wearing only jeans. I'm not interested in shattering a kneecap, or having it sheared off by a pothole or something. No thanks.

I'm looking to "invest", and by invest I mean liberally piss away my savings, on a bike once I get out of school and into a non-new England climate. What ARE appropriate pants for riding? I've read up on proper moto-jackets with spine and joint armor, but what do you wear on your legs? Leather? Space-age fabrics? Kevlar?

It depends on how much you love your legs. If I'm going for a hard ride, I wear my 1 piece race suit. If I'm not wearing my race suit, I won't push it but I still have on my helmet, jacket, spine protector (separate from jacket is better than one built in), race gloves, jeans, and race boots. But I've also crashed more times than I care to remember so I'm very careful about my safety gear.

Leather is the best. Better than Cordura, etc. When you get your bike I suggest getting a 2 piece leather suit. That will afford you the flexibility of wearing jeans if you want. Try Iron Heart 21oz denim or Draggin' Jeans. They may help a bit in preventing some abrasion but won't do **** for contusions or protecting your joints.
