It's fall. I go with a sweater under the suit as opposed to a coat over the suit and shirt whenever possible. This gives the clean look of the suit/scarf/gloves/hat on the outside as opposed to covering it all up with a top coat.

obviously when it gets too cold, you need a coat.

If you are wearing suit over sweater, would not your suits need to be little larger? Thus, those suits would too large to wear with dress shirts?

granted, i'm not a suit-wearer. however it seems to me a sweater is just not part of the 'suit' look. i'd rather see it with a sportcoat.

with a 'country' suit, a sweater might work better.

I have to respectfully disagree. If you are talking about clean looks, a sleek topcoat over a suit is about as clean as you can get. Wearing a sweater, gloves, and scarf with a suit looks much less put together and less clean to me. Im not disparaging the look at all, I wear it all the time, I just dont think its clean. I think its messier, chunkier, bulkier, the exact opposite of clean.
