I have a pair of Alden Shell Cordovan Full Strap loafers that are my size (8.5 D) but are so stretched out they are unwearable. They also badly need refurbishing. If I have them refurbished, including the uppers, does anyone think that will help with the fit? I was thinking about vibram soles or anything to contract them, especially in the heels.

If not, is there anything else I can do? I have tried an additional inner sole and pads, but they also do not work.

I understand that Alden is good about responding to inquiries, as well as re-crafting. I'd recommend contacting them.

Did you stretch them out or did you buy them used? Seems like if you stretched them out the footbed should still mold around your foot unless you rarely wear them and trees did the stretching.

Cordovan is inherently malleable and actually stretches quite easily. I have a pair of AE Kenwoods in cordo that have stretched at least half a size. Though, again, the footbed has remained comfortable and formed to my feet.

I think it came from a little of both. i did buy them used and they seemed OK for awhile. However, I have never had a problem with Aldens until this time.

Interesting, I find cordovan to be stiffer and less forgiving than calf.
