I thought you were in the inner circle? Maybe that's why I haven't seen you at the meetings.

Like my personality in the CE.

Those sound nice. But let me see...how many pending projects does that make?

Projects tend to pend in my mind for a long time before they pend at the shop. No idea with this one will officially start pending.

I've been thinking about the same yet-to-be-made overcoat for like a year or something.

I think I'm going to order one made from a vintage brown and dark blue herringbone cashmere. I'm not entirely convinced I shouldn't go the camel route instead though.

I sympathize with mafoo here. I have been thinking about a potential overcoat for five years or more. I can't make up my mind, hence no coat yet.

Thoughts on the brown-navy herringbone I described? The navy is so dark it's almost black, and it's not a skimpy herringbone--you can see the pattern from across the room. There's one vintage bolt of the stuff sitting in Naples. It's from some defunct English or Scottish mill that I don't remember the name of. Should I jump on it?

Is it admirable, or laconic?

Scuttle what I said earlier. I looked up a photo I took of the cloth; it's not herringbone at all. It's just navy and brown all mixed up together in some mottley weave.

I think there are a few ways to differentiate a sports coat from looking like an orphaned suit jacket. One is, as you said, to utilise a 'loud', colourful pattern like the Russell. Another, is to' play' with the jacket's details. Action backs, patch pockets, half belts, hacking pockets or maybe a one piece back like Vox's will have the desired effect of moving the coat away from most business connotations, presuming that's the direction the customer wants to go.

Vox, I do hope you'll post pictures of the finished jackets.
