Higher Quality ones. No plasticque.

Suede?
Dark Brown?

Something sleekkkk not grandpa old man, dorky and clunky.

Any recommendations?

Do you think so? I think they look much too sleek to be 'old man'. I'm considering the same shoe in beechnut calf.

Not the shape, for sure. The light suede if anything, is what could do it. They would look excellent in brown calf or a darker suede.

Yeah, anything in the Andy shape would be good. Mantellassi has them, Berluti obviously, those C&Js look great, etc.

A shoe is only as old man as it's wearer.

For whatever reason the "timeless" and "classic" penny loafer design really turns me off...not in a sense that I can't appreciate them when worn by others, but more just not for me. In H.S. I endured a kind of "anti-preppy" penny loafer/boat shoe thing and that prejudice probably still exists but penny loafers seem so "safe" or otherwise lack creativity for me...similar to my lack of love for anything paisley. Just removing the penny **** increases the look of a shoe 100X to me ...I just can't stand that lippy looking penny ****

I also might as well admit that being formed since the 70's, my sense of style forbids kilties or tassles. Tassles maybe, but my kilties have been gathering dust for over a decade. All I wear now are monks or moccasins.

"These three haven't made it back to my closet yet. The Bahamas are my daily drivers this summer along with some Sebago decks. I wore the Agostinis last night and the leather on the Geox is incredible IMO for a shoe in the $100 range.

I like these:

Mantellassi:

I think the contrast stitching gives them a casual air, if that's what you're looking for. They're actually a little lighter than the picture, so to some they may be "old man", but I like 'em.
