They will primarily be worn in a work environment. I think if I get the boots I have dual usage, but the shoes would generally be restricted to working.

Put both on your to-get list, and start with the Dalton's.

I have the Long Branch, which is nearly the same as the Dalton - except it is better for walking comfort in parks and on trails with my wife.

Some ideas for you:

If you wear a suit to work, McAllisters are your only choice, because derbies are unacceptable with suits. That said, Strands in walnut calf are preferred over McAllisters because...

The Daltons are nice looking footgear, but I've never quite seen where they fit in: They are too dressy for the really rugged outdoor wear that demands boots, yet they just seem "off" for wear with a dressy casual ensemble, much less a suit.

I have Mcallister in merlot and love them, great business casual and great use out of the office. I'd get long branch over the dalton.

One person's "work environment" is another's personal hell is another's ideal clothing situation. Can you be more specific?

I have some burgundy shell Daltons that get weekly use, either in my business casual workplace or with cuffed fancy denim in the evening. For that they're great. For more thoughts, you might post over in the AE thread -- it's an active place.

I was able to order two different sizes of the FIFTH STREET BOOTS when they were on sale with over $100 off, so as to try on for a best fit. They paid for the return shipping and I ended up with a very nice black dress boot for church and other semi-formal events.

All my best,

David

I wear my Haight's with suits. They also develop a wonderful patina.
