shortening jacket sleeve just 0.25"???

I need to shorten my suit jacket sleeve just about 0.25"
Do tailors do that? I mean he can probably do that, but I don't know if he messes up by cutting too much.

just it's a common alteration, and any half-decent tailor can do it. when you look at the finished end of the sleeve, it's actually folded and pressed and then they sew the lining over it, so theres extra fabric in there in case it needs to be let out.

What the hell are you talking about. Maybe it's too long now?

@OP yes, you can. It shouldn't be too expensive. In fact, it's so common a job that manufacturers put faux buttons on jackets these days to better accommodate that procedure (and save $).

Yes, of course sleeves can shortened 0,25", but first make sure that this will be the correct length.

Besides shortening, a well made garment should also provide the seams with extra fabric, so that it can be subsequently modified (also lengthening) if necessary.

I don't know if I agree as an end-user, I had a jacket altered last week and if it had just been .25" he could have left the working buttons and the sleeve innards as stock - however I need more like 1.5" off and he isn't capable of doing it from the shoulder (well he said the sleeve wouldn't fit but I think it's both), when I got the jacket back he had just folded the sleeve inside itself and sewn it down so now there are no working buttonholes (as expected) but the **** in the sleeve is now also gone

Glad I did it with a super cheap jacket as a test, I'll stick to having pants hemmed with this guy from now on.


I guess what I'm saying is it comes down to the tailor, their skill, and the construction of the clothing.
