I asked this question in our affiliate thread, but thought this was a question for the broader SF community.

What is your preference for the button stance on dress/casual shirts. This is an age old question that has even made it's way to an episode of Seinfeld.

Recently a few companies have been dropping the first button on the shirt down from the collar band to approx. 3", allowing the first button to be done up, without it looking closed off.

Alternatively, a few European bands, raise the first button up to be only 1 1/2" from the band, shifting the stance of all the subsequent buttons up as well. This allows the first button to remain unbuttoned, but the 2nd button is high enough to keep the chest sufficiently covered up. The look is a bit more casual as a button on the shirt remains unbuttoned.

Thoughts and preferences?

  • Rarely - I seldom consider sustainability when purchasing clothes.

  • Never - Sustainability is not a factor I consider in my clothing choices.
